Our Lab and Technology


Our lab is owned, operated, and staffed by CordBancUSA^TM and is located in Monterey, California. We do not outsource any aspect of our processing or storage to third parties. We are proud of our facility, and we invite you to schedule a tour of our facility if you are in the area.

Staff and Certifications

The CordBancUSA lab staff is led by Hugh Wilson, M.D. The former chair of the pathology department and laboratory director of Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, Dr. Wilson is a licensed, practicing, and board-certified pathologist. His team at CordBancUSA includes experienced laboratory staff, a quality control expert, and highly qualified managers. We hold a California State Biologics license and are registered with the Food and Drug Administration as a human cell, tissue, and cellular/tissue-based product (HCT/P) facility.

Our Technology

CordBancUSA depends on only advanced technology and proven methods.

AXP™ AutoXpress™ Platform - We process all cord blood using the AXP AutoXpress Platform from Thermogenesis. It is a fully automated, closed, and sterile system. In testing, it has been shown to retain more than 97% of targeted cells.

BioArchive ® - All cord blood stem cells we process are stored in the BioArchive® System. It enables the robotic storage and retrieval of samples, helping to protect cells from warming events that reduce viability over the long term. The system is monitored 24/7/365 by advanced software.

Although the BioArchive® is used by dozens of leading medical facilities in more than 20 countries, CordBancUSA is one of the few private cord blood banks in the world using this technology.
